Description

What's the difference between the ECO Kit and the Max Performance Kit?

ECO Kit is the basic Delete Kit and retains the existing (factory) muffler, while the Max Performance is from the turbo back with the full catback and tip (dual on golf, Jetta, Sportwagen and Beetle and single on Passat).

Will I have a Check Engine Light after doing the DPF Delete Kit?

As long as the proper TuneZilla software is installed in conjunction with the DPF delete downpipe and midpipe, you will NOT have a check engine light on for anything related to the exhaust system. If you already have a check engine light, or DPF light on for a problem with your exhaust, this will be cured at the same time. Rest assured that the check engine light will still be 100% functional and in the event that there is a problem with something unrelated to your exhaust in the future, the light will come on to notify you.

What are the power increases?

Power and torque are increased substantially. Volkswagen rates stock power for the North American 2.0L CR TDI engine (2015+) at 140HP and 240Lbs-ft. With a Rawtek DPF delete exhaust system and TuneZilla stage 2 tune, we have seen 185HP and over 323TQ. That is an increase of 70HP and 146TQ beyond stock ratings ... RELIABLY! *calculated using a standard 15% drivetrain loss.

Can I do the installation myself?

Yes! Detailed parts installation guides are available for download at the bottom of the product pages and on the Instructions & Guides page. Basic mechanical skills and some specialized tools are required so if you are not accustomed to working on your car, we recommend that you take the installation to a reputable shop. Most TuneZilla tuning dealers are well qualified to perform the installation.

Do I really need to tune my ECM to use the DPF delete kit?

Yes! In order for the vehicle to run properly without any check engine lights or fault codes, your ECM must have the appropriate tune for the parts installed.

How long does it take to install the Rawtek DPF delete kit?

This fully depends on the vehicle you are working on, seeing as they are all different. For more information, please check the specific exhaust product page.

How do I get my ECM tuned?

Tuning is available in one of two methods:

-Bench Flash ; This involves removing the ECU and shipping it to be tuned using UPs labels that are sent to you by email. This only applies to the following vehicles: Sprinter Vans, 09-10 3.0L TDI engines (Touareg/Q7), and 2014+ BMW models.

-Flashzilla device; We ship you a small handheld tuner that you use to read the factory file and email it to us for tuning. This is our preferred method and we will not offer a bench flash if Flashzilla tuning is available.

-Flashzilla Pro Device: we ship you a small handheld tuner that will connect to your vehicle and your Microsoft laptop and the Tunezilla Portal.  You will then choose the tune stage you ordered, choose the add-on deletes as well and then apply the tune credits sent by email and flash the vehicle.  You will see the FZP as an option if it is available for your vehicle.

How do I get my DSG transmission tuned?

We now offer the Flashzilla Pro which can tune both the TCU and ECU.  If this is offered for your vehicle, you will see DSG as an add-on to the tune package you requested.  Simply choose this and you will receive an email with the instructions for tuning as well as a link to accept your tune credits.

Why do you only offer TuneZilla tunes?

TuneZilla is the best VW TDI tuner out there, bar none! We worked closely with TuneZilla during the development of our parts and have been consistently impressed with the power, reliability and customer service.

Do I need the Resonator and why?

First of all, the resonator is 100% straight through and causes zero power loss and because of it's unique shape it will not affect ground clearance. Whether or not you need a resonator depends on what type of sound you are looking for. If loud and raw is what you are after then you do not need it. If you want something a little more subtle or you do a lot of long distance driving, then you do need it. We highly recommend the resonator when you have a complete turbo back exhaust, because without it, the car will be quite loud and will tend to drone on the highway. The resonator eliminates drone entirely and brings the overal volume down to a reasonable yet sporty level. You will hear a deep performance note when you are hard on the throttle but it will not be intrusive at idle or cruise. If you plan on keeping the stock rear exhaust with muffler then you can get away with not having the resonator. The stock muffler will quiet down the exhaust enough for most people but the resonator will provide a smoother, more refined tone.

Which midpipe should I get?

The factors to consider when choosing a midpipe are Budget, Environment and Sound Quality. The chart below will help you choose components based on your priorities:

  • Budget - Straight Pipe
  • Environment - High Flow Cat
  • Sound Quality - Resonator
  • Environment and Quietness - High Flow Cat and Resonator

See the following FAQs for more information:

  • Do I need the high flow catalytic converter and why?
  • Do I need the resonator and why?

Will the exhaust drone on the highway?

The only time your exhaust will drone while cruising on the highway will be if you have a complete exhaust system with no muffler or resonator. This is why we strongly suggest a resonator when buying a complete turbo back exhaust. As long as you have a resonator or you are keeping your stock rear exhaust with muffler, your car will not drone.

What will my car sound like?

The best way to explain how your car will sound like is to show you. We will be making some detailed sound clips of all of our exhaust systems this spring. In the mean time you can find many exhaust sound clips from some of our existing customers here.

Will my DSG transmission handle the extra torque?

Whenever you increase the torque output of the motor, the DSG transmission must be tuned to compensate. If you do not tune the DSG transmission to match the increased torque, you will experience rough shifts that could damage your transmission over time. There is one option that will allow you to delete the DPF without having to tune your DSG. This is called the ECONO tune from TuneZilla. The ECONO tune will allow your car to run properly without the DPF while maintaining stock power levels. This tune is designed for minimizing fuel consumption and not for maximum power.

Will my car make black smoke?

In all honesty, it is possible for black smoke to occur, especially when going hard on the throttle, however, we DO NOT roll coal! Rolling coal is inefficient and against our vision for this product.

Will my clutch hold all that torque?

Yes! To date we have not heard any incidents of clutches slipping. On our Rawtek MK6 Jetta TDI we have the most aggressive stage 2 tune with our complete DPF delete exhaust and we drive it quite hard. We have never had the clutch slip... ever!

What about emissions?

Removing or tampering with any factory emissions components is illegal. Our DPF delete kits are intended for OFF ROAD USE ONLY!

Will these parts and/or tuning affect the reliability of my car?

YES! Your car will be MORE reliable. The Rawtek DPF Delete Downpipe and other performance exhaust parts, will actually make your car more dependable. Here is a list of the most common reliability issues with the CR 2.0L TDI engine:

  • Clogged or failed DPF
  • Burnt out EGT Sensors (can cause DPF to fail)
  • Failed exhaust flap valve
  • EGR system failure
  • Condensation in EGR leading to water locking the engine

With our exhaust kit all these unreliable parts are eliminated and you will never have to deal with these issues. If you have already experienced any of these problems, then our parts are the solution. What's more...TuneZilla Tunes are designed not to push the engine or turbo beyond their physical limitations. All the power increases are made without the added stress of increased turbo boost pressure or fuel pump pressure. To date we have never heard of anybody experiencing any reliability issues related to TuneZilla.

Will these parts void my warranty?

Legally speaking... No, your warranty should not be affected because there is no added stress placed on your original parts. Realistically... If you are concerned, talk to your dealership and explain that the tuning does not alter turbo boost pressure or fuel pump pressure. You may also want to mention that the most problematic components of your car will be deleted and will therefore never need to be replaced under warranty. Unfortunately... Some dealerships will look for any excuse to deny a warranty claim. Remember that you can always reinstall your original parts if a major warranty issue should arrise.

What are the fuel mileage gains?

Under normal driving conditions we see up to a *15% increase in MPG. In most cases this translates to about 5 - 8 MPG better than stock. If your DPF is already blocked or starting to block, you may be getting poor gas mileage to start with so the gains would be significantly more. *15% is an average based on customer feedback and experience with our test vehicle. Individual results will vary depending on local climate and driving style.

I drive a Sprinter, how can I read the error codes?

The current headache with a Mercedes Certified Dealer or finding a local store with the proper diagnostic tools is enough to drive anyone crazy. Our experts at TuneZilla have tried several spare parts options and have opted for a simple and inexpensive tool that allows you to scan codes via the OBD port directly to your mobile device! Just go to Amazon and search for it - the BlueDriver Bluetooth Professional OBDII Scan Tool for iPhone, iPad and Android is $ 99 and you can use it to scan codes, monitor levels of increase or EGT and more!

How can I tell of my Sprinter uses the old or new exhaust kit?

ECO kit

The kit that I bought had all prices that were needed to install. Using the online install instructions there are differences as the system needs have changed which would be nice to see an updated to those instructions. I have seen a few comments about the mod pipe fit being tight, which it was but I did not have to alter to make them connect …… overall I am happy with the system 👍🏻

Good delete kit

Kit was used on a 2013 A3, instructions were fairly close to expected. I was able to make it a bit easier to free the DPF cutting some of what was in the way with a sawzall and made it easier to maneuver. I did this work with jack stands in the garage after work the day after received. Took about 6 hours in total including installing the tuning. A lift would have made this significantly quicker than crawling under on the ground and for clearance. One item I would have liked to see was a new gasket for the turbo connection instead of reusing the factory one, but a cheap part if you want to replace, just thought for the overall price it would be nice to include.

Completely recommend, but it's definitely some work

I installed this on my '11 A3, pretty much a bone stick rig before. I purchased this kit, then separately purchased a FlashZilla Pro, then tuned it to the generic Stage 2 and upgraded TCU tuning through the Tunezilla Portal. I purchased the 'straight pipe'.

Quick note: The FAQ is wrong: You do NOT need a dealer to install the TCU tune. The FlashZilla Pro is now capable of doing it.

The instructions are reasonable, the photo quality leaves a bit to be desired, but the majority of the instructions are straight forward and easy to follow. I highly, highly recommend that you also watch through some YouTube videos of the install. I referenced them multiple times throughout the process since it made it a bit easier. As far as the Audi is concerned, the photos being on a Jetta make little difference. I definitely recommend trying to get the car lifted as much as you can, the space makes a lot of the process easier. Not going to recommend any particular way, I was able to utilize a portable lift that run underneath the outside of the frame beneath the doors. Made removing the center undercarriage protector a bit difficult since it applied pressure onto it, but wasn't a big deal. I think I probably would have blown an aneurism if I didn't have as much clearance as I did.

I did run into a few concerns in the instructions, such as 'Step 8' which references a nut I don't know if I ever found.... No clue. Step 11 also has you remove an oxygen sensor off the exhaust, it says later under 12d that you can set them aside as they won't be reinstalled. I skipped removing the sensor since it was a complete pain in the angle it was installed in, so I just left it installed.

It also recommends unbolting the passenger side axle, and then if further difficulties are met, lowering the subframe. I was able to skip both of these steps HOWEVER, I did not remove the DPF and existing downpipe in a single piece. I suppose you absolutely could do this and remove it in one piece, but it made the process entirely easier to just saw through the existing downpipe before the DPF, then trim a few extra bits as you run into difficulty. Again, having clearance helps. I avoided cutting too close to any existing sensors. I had difficulty removing the EGT sensors and absolutely refused to want to lower the subframe. I was able to separate the downpipe from the DPF, remove the remainder of the downpipe, then manhandle the DPF into a better position to trim some excess. I also ran into problems with a hose that was shielded in aluminum and ran up around the DPF. I noted that this hose ran to the first pressure sensor, and would not be reconnected. I cut through this and separated it from the downpipe and that made removal a lot easier.
I also had enough space to avoid rocking the engine and moving the axle around. Again, probably since the saw just made everything easier, but your mileage may vary.
The "rubber and plastic exhaust bracket" talked about in Step 25 is the long black piece that is bolted into the subframe and supports the exhaust. It says simply "Remove from the DPF". Use a screwdriver and some force, it'll eventually pop off. It's a pain.

When installing the new downpipe, I had better luck loosely securing the downpipe to the existing DPF bracket, then manipulating the V-band to the turbo outlet flange. The V-bands through this entire project were annoying, but they are definitely a lot easier going on then removing (screwdriver, hammer and some patience). I recommend 2 people for most of this project, you need the hands.

The "EGT Sensor with Orange Connector" talked about in Step 30c was still installed in my removed downpipe after it was pulled from the car. The EGT sensor with the brown connector that you are instructed to remove, does NOT fit in the new downpipe. So make sure you don't damage any of the sensors throughout the project and are able to recover that one.

The tolerances with the midpipes are tight, I was unable to get the rear half to fit over the front half (yes, I was using the expanded end), so we sawed 4 small relief cuts in the front half of the midpipe and pressure it inside just slightly, to allow the rear half to slide over all the way. The photos and instructions also seem to imply there is an oxygen sensor install in the midpipe (Step 31j), but I did not see any install point for that, so I don't know what thats talking about.

TuneZilla tuning for both the ECU/TCU took about 30 minutes to complete, which was an agonizing wait after all that work, but it started up without a problem. No engine codes since install, no DPF lights. Sound with the stock catback is definitely deeper and more pronounced, turbo is a LOT louder. Stage 2 has a lot of nice get up and go to it. Took in total about 8 hours with two hands to complete it, most of the difficulties encountered was rust and seized components.

Overall, extremely happy. RawTek makes a great product and the TuneZilla tuning is a p...

Perfect fit and quality

The quality of the product is fantastic. The fitment is perfect. The instructions are very detailed. The performance increase is well worth it. This is the only kit you should buy.
